General Motors is recalling certain model years of the Chevrolet Bolt EV due to a potential fire risk involving the seat belts.
Upon investigation, GM found that the seat belt pretensioners in the Bolt EV could deploy during a crash and potentially cause a fire near the B-pillar area of the car.
To fix the issue, dealers will install metal foil on the carpet near the pretensioner exhaust and, in some cases, a pretensioner cover. These additional parts will be installed free of charge and are meant to prevent ignition of the carpet material.
The affected model years are 2017 to 2023, manufactured between July 26, 2016 and October 25, 2022. It's worth noting that Chevrolet Bolt EUV models, which use a different design, are not included in this recall.
This is not the first recall for the Bolt EV, as certain model years were also recalled earlier this year for a fire risk involving the battery packs.
