NHTSA assesses Tesla's heating problems for 'potential safety concerns'

SAN FRANCISCO - US auto safety regulators said Friday they were discussing some heating problems with automakers in Tesla-equipped vehicles and classified them as "potential safety issues."  According to Drive Tesla Canada, many Tesla owners complain that their heat pumps fail at extremely low temperatures.  According to the report, even after Tesla replaced the faulty heat pump sensor early last year between 2020 and 2021, the heating problem still persisted. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Office (NHTSA) said: "We are aware of this issue, we are continuing to gather information, discuss the issue with Tesla and assess potential safety concerns."     Tesla did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.  Canadian car safety regulators Thursday received 16 consumer complaints about a Tesla Model 3 Model Y vehicle for its cold weather performance.  Transport Canada said it was concerned that a heating and air-conditioning system malfunction "could lead to windshield defrosting/defrosting and thus affecting driver's visibility."
