BMW Motorrad: an increase of 14.8% in 2021, a historic and record sales result in Italy

Record market results for BMW Motorrad in 2021 with 194,261 units (+ 14.8%). That just passed was the best year since the foundation of the brand, considering that in 2020 a figure of 169,272 specimens was recorded.  In Italy In the Italian market, the Bavarian brand for the first time exceeds the threshold of 16,000 units registered (16,006 source UNRAE), a new national record and better than in the pre-pandemic period with a percentage increased by 2.7%, compared to 2019. Almost 86% of the total volume is represented by motorbikes over 500 cc to which the C 400 medium displacement scooters are added, of which 1,442 registered scooters are indicated, therefore the two models of the G 310 family with 821 units registered, with excellent results despite the launch took place only in the second quarter of 2021. Moving on to units with a displacement greater than 500 cc in Italy, a 5.9% growth was recorded compared to 2019, maintaining the leadership with a growth in terms of volumes of 11.6% and improving the market share over the two years previous (19.4% in 2021; + 1.0pp vs 2019; + 0.7pp vs 2020). Speaking of the best-selling specimens, the BMW R 1250 GS is the best seller among the models over 500 cc with 3,956 units, to which the results of the R 1250 GS Adventure with 2,504 units and the GS flagship family total 6,460 units. Then the BMW F 900 XR , in its second year of market presence, with 817 units remained stable considering the year of launch, with 825 units in 2020. Then follows the BMW R 1250 RT, a distinctive model in the dynamic tourer segment with 796 units registered. Then the BMW S 1000 XR which follows with 793 units, almost replicating the record that had been 799 units at the launch in 2020. The models with the Boxer engine were also appreciated, which account for 59.4% of total sales. the good debut of the R 18 proposal with 284 units registered.  Featured models In 2021 , more than 60,000 units of the two touring enduros R 1250 GS and GS Adventure were delivered . Sales of the R Series, traditionally in relief, also increased. With the new top-of-the-range tourer R 1250 RT and the four BMW cruisers of the R 18 family , sales figures in the twin-cylinder boxer segment have risen further, making up around half of the 194,261 vehicles sold overall. Another important novelty in the past year was the BMW M 1000 RR, the first BMW Motorrad M-branded motorcycle entered the market. Given the 1,070 units sold and the sporting successes achieved, this model highlights the constructive innovation of the brand. Sportiness is also underlined by the S 1000 RR , S 1000 XR and S 1000 R models , the latter launched last year with considerable success. 4,796 units sold after the update are reported.  Europe and Asia Significant growth was recorded in Europe in 2021, with interesting results in France with 19,887 units delivered and +13.4%, in Italy with 16,034 units delivered and +15.2% and in Spain with 12,616 units delivered and +14.4 %. The German market remains by far the largest for BMW Motorrad with 25,972 units sold, still remaining the most successful motorcycle manufacturer. Overall, including Germany , 9,100 more vehicles were delivered than in the previous year. Moving on to the UKeven considering Brexit, the exit of this market from the EU did not have a significant impact with a reported increase of 26.6% and sales of 9,263 units in Great Britain / Ireland, compared to the previous year with 7,315 units. Turning our gaze towards the Asian market, also in this case an expansion is signaled. China with 14,309 units delivered and + 21.4% represents one of the strongest markets in the continent with a double-digit increase. Important numbers also in India , with a growth of 102.5% and 5,191 units delivered.  United States and Brazil The trend is also good on the US market in 2021. Delivery of 16,030 motorcycles and scooters is indicated, compared to 12,135 units in the previous year with an incredible growth of 32.1%. While in Brazil the trend did not appear as rapid, but it is encouraging. 11,150 units sold were reported compared to 10,707 units of the previous year with a growth of 4.1%, making it one of the top seven markets for the brand in 2021.
