Apple's digital car keys may work with Hyundai and Genesis models this summer

The Apple Digital Car Key feature can be instantly useful for unlocking more than a handful of BMW models. Their latest newsletter, BloombergMark Gurman, highlights Hyundai and its Luxury Book of Genesis, with the badge approving the "summer" Apple car. It is unclear which model offers the option, but some trim levels of the Ioniq 5 and other Hyundai cars include NFC for digital keys (currently proprietary). Remote lock control via smartphone has been around for some time, but CarKey (and its Android equivalent) treat the phone like a physical key. All you need to do is connect your phone or Apple Watch to the door handle to unlock. You can also put your smartphone in a specific place and start the car. People with ultra-broadband iPhones (such as iPhone 11 and later) can also keep their phone in their pocket when opening or starting a vehicle. If the leaks are correct, Apple's move could broaden the target audience for digital car keys. You don't have to buy from a luxury brand to be considered. The deal is also a potential collaboration for electric vehicles - it wasn't enough to discourage Apple and Hyundai from exploring CarKey's collaboration.
