2022 Hyundai i20 N WRC Hybrid Rally Car covers all the major repairs

Ford Puma Hybrid Rally1 The rival will have Thierry Neuville and Ott Tanck at the wheel as full-time drivers while Dani Sordo and Oliver Solberg will share the third car of Rally 1. The 2022 WRC season of 13 rounds will begin with the Monte Carlo Rally of the January 20-23.

WRC is entering the electrified era and Hyundai Motorsport expects to unveil its 2022 Challenger before the start of the season later this month. The new car from South Korea is known as the "i20 N Rally1 2022 Edition" and has been developed from the ground up to suit the hybrid configuration. The new 100 kW electric motor will be powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, which represents the only transferred part of the car with 2021 specs.

Supplied by Kreisel Electrics, the electric motor will provide an additional 134 horsepower, giving a combined output of approximately 500 hp in short bursts. According to the rules, the drivers must use electric impulse at each stage of the rally. Power will return to the battery through regenerative braking. Simply pressing the accelerator pedal will unlock the temporary power surge and, as before, the cars will remain four-wheel drive.

Like other cars in Rally 1, Hyundai's contenders for 2022 will use a simpler five-speed transmission that will eliminate the center differential. In addition, the WRC rules for next season also affect the suspension, which will be less complicated by reducing the travel of the wheels, as well as simpler shock absorbers, bushings and stabilizer bars.

The i20 N Rally1 2022 Edition will weigh around 70 kg (154 lb) more than its predecessor due to the additional hardware handled by the hybrid configuration. Liquid brake cooling is no longer allowed, and neither are hidden air ducts. Although it looks very familiar from the outside, Hyundai Motorsport's latest rally car benefits from a new space-frame steel chassis that is supposed to be safer.
