Lancia Flaminia: the 'Presidential' celebrates 60 years at the Quirinale

Lancia will celebrate 115 years of history tomorrow, given that the brand was founded in Turin on November 27, 1906. A few years later, precisely in 1961, a car of the Turin brand became a symbol of Italy: the Flaminia became the presidential car, used for the first time by President Giovanni Gronchi.   A special anniversary So, this year we celebrate the 60th anniversary of that historic car, which has become an icon because it was later used for numerous events and visits by foreign heads of state. This very important double anniversary is celebrated in the frame of the Quirinale Palace for an iconic brand of our automotive. The history of the Presidential Flaminia   The Lancia Flaminia was launched at the 1957 Geneva Motor Show , with its 2.5-liter V6 engine, with luxurious interiors and finishes. From the pen of Pininfarina, four years later, the presidential long-wheelbase convertible, called '335', ​​was created. The car was used for the first time by the then president Giovanni Gronchi, on the occasion of the visit to Italy of Queen Elizabeth II of England . Then it will be used for other important visits, such as those of John Fitzgerald Kennedy and Charles De Gaulle, but also for the celebrations of the centenary of Italy.  Made in four specimens , called Belfiore, Belmonte, Belvedere and Belsito (four thoroughbreds from the Quirinale stables), the cars underwent a careful restoration in 2001. Currently, two of the specimens are entrusted to the Quirinal Stables : Belfiore and Belvedere are in fact the cars for the "great occasions" of the Head of State, the Belsito can be viewed at the historical museum of the Military Motorization in Rome, while the Belmonte is exhibited at the Turin Automobile Museum .
