Harley-Davidson reported its Q2 results for 2021 on July 21, 2021. In comparison with the same period from 2020, the numbers are moving in the right direction. The surge in Harley sales in North America is responsible exclusively for the 24 percent global increase in Harley sales.

There was only one positive number when broken down by sales region in Q2: Sales in North America were up 43 percent year-on-year. The same period saw a 7 percent drop in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (commonly referred to as "EMEA" by OEMs) sales. We have seen sales decline 13 percent in Asia Pacific and 31 percent in Latin America.

Worldwide Harley-Davidson bike sales have risen 18 percent in the first half of 2021, which is still encouraging for the struggling motorcycle manufacturer. Sales in North America are up 38 percent, EMEA sales are down 19 percent, Asia Pacific sales are down 7 percent, and Latin American sales are down 47 percent.

Some of the negative numbers were attributed to Harley's overall strategy, Harley said. The Motor Company said the decline in EMEA Q2 sales was caused by Harley-Davidson stopping sales of its Street and Sportster models there. As well, the Rewire strategy negatively affected Latin America sales due to a dealer reduction across the region in addition to "price adjustments across the portfolio."

Over the same period in 2020, revenue has increased by 99 percent for Q2 of 2021. Considering that 45 percent revenue increase for the first half of the year is particularly encouraging, it is likely to be particularly welcome news. Although most of these numbers are still below those in 2019, this is clearly the best result since the pandemic began. The retail sales in Q2 in North America stand out as an exception, since they increased by 5 percent.

The Parts and Accessories section of 2021 sales is up 32 percent, and the General Merchandise section is up 47 percent. Harley-Davidson says the bike segment is expected to grow 30 to 35 percent, year over year, in the full year 2021. We'll have to wait and see how this prediction turns out over the next few months as it is just a forecast.
