Among India's largest motorcycle manufacturers, Jawa is expected to launch an electric motorcycle sometime in 2022. Earlier this year, a sudden boom in the production of electric motorcycles occurred in India following the implementation of the FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India) subsidies.

EV-centric website Electric Vehicle Web, along with automotive designer Sreejith Krisnan, have created an unofficial rendering of what could be the future electric motorcycle. Jawa has clearly used its signature style in this rendering, displaying a retro-style cruiser platform. The tank has a large, faux fuel tank, a round headlight, and a flat, two-up saddle. Rather than an internal-combustion engine, it houses a massive X-shaped powertrain with an electric motor.

A rear hub motor would seem to be an innovative feature for the electric Jawa, which is commonly found on more budget-friendly electric two-wheelers. Besides housing the bike's electronics, such as the ECU, and the charging port will be located in the faux fuel tank.

It is possible to share other components, too, such as the saddle, suspension, brakes, and lights, with the rest of Jawa's bikes so that costs can be reduced, allowing the new model to be sold at a very competitive price.

Interesting to note, the possibility of a Jawa electric motorcycle is extremely high.

Due to government subsidies encouraging the development of hybrids and electric vehicles, many Indian motorcycle manufacturers have shifted to producing them. Classic Legends CEO Ashsish Singh Joshi said, "Electric is a very interesting phase. Regulations will force you into it sooner rather than later. Exactly the type of electric you do and all of that depends on a particular point in time."

Classic Legends' UK R&D facility is also reported to be working on the Jawa electric motorcycle. With a total budget of £9.5 million, a little under half of this will be funded by the U.K. government. Also, Classic Legends is planning to establish a production line in Coventry, United Kingdom, to produce new models for the European market. In its announcement, ZigWheels says that it will roll out a motorcycle powered by gasoline, followed by one powered by electricity.
